I have been looking through the archives on different ideas for creating a bearskin rug - as opposed to the full head mount. I have seen very few post about flat head, or half head mounts. I have seen pics of zebra flat head rugs and lion flat head rugs and they look good.
Has anyone done the flat head or half head on bear ? What was your impression?
On the flat head rug - how would you turn out the head, what do you do with the bottom jaw skin, and nose?
After it has been tanned - what do you do with the ears, eye holes, and muzzle?
Or would you just send the tanned hide to the rugger and ask for a flat head rug?
If anyone has any pics - that would be greatly appreciated.

Ed, My thoughts on this are that a flathead rug would look a bit odd- just my opinion. A better choice would be a closed mouth rug if you prefer not to see teeth. It would look more natural I think. Any good rug taxidermist can produce this type of mount for you if you are thinking of hiring it done. If you simply do not want to mount the head at all you can just tan the whole hide and use as is. This would look better than a rug with flat face and eyes sewed shut--just my thoughts, Aaron H.
