CUR, I just read that you said you don't recomend All-Game epoxie and prefer apoxie sculpt. I just ordered All-Game from Van Dykes last night and was wondering what was wrong with it and what the difference is from apoxie sculpt which I have used?

I use All Game all the time - we order it in 5 gallon kits and love the stuff. I also use Apoxie Sculpt. All Game sags a little more than Apoxie Sculpt so you have to learn how to use it properly. First - do NOT immerse it in water to aid in mixing - mix it dry with only enough water on your gloves to keep it from sticking. Some ppl I know dunk it right in the water which means it abosorbs too much water and promotes sagging even more. Mix it thoroughly and allow it to set up a bit so its not all stringy - then its awesome to use and Ive sculpted detail as fine as chain mail armour on a model one inch tall for a company in Cincinatti. Mix it wrong and yer buggerred. Apoxie Sculpt starts out with a slightly grainer texture than All Game but also has a little more firmess to it so you dont require it to have an initial set up time. Apoxie Sculpt also comes in pre tinted colours and as far as I know All Game doesn't. A little powdered pigment added to All Game remedies that problem however. All in all.. it really comes down to what you feel comfortable using, theres no product flaw in All Game, it's just a matter of personal preference, the end results you are trying to achieve and how you want to achieve them =) My observations are that All Game allows you to do finer detail smoothly, but Apoxie Sculpt is more forgiving.
Raven,
Then why answer a question that doesn't concern you. It was directed to Cur. A man of vast knowlege and experience. WHEN YOU LEAVE FOR NEW Years, do us all a favor and don't come back.
awww,awww,awww.
and he can if he wants too. If no one would answer questions that may not pertain to them because of an individuals name, a lot of people would never get an answer. Cur has not visited the forum for a long time lately and he is very busy at the moment. He may not show up here again for several weeks. You want to just let Dean hang in the air and never get an answer? Quite frankly I am getting sick of you "Sick of Raven". I don't know what your agenda is with Raven but he is ok in my books, he has lots of knowledge and does donate his own personal time to answer people's question. If you don't like it just stay off the forum or at least keep your mouth shut. But to bash Raven at every single post on here that he makes a comment too is uncalled for. So I guess now let the Pig bashing begin. I am ready for it. Still ain't gonna change my mind about you and Raven.
The reason that I do not like All-Game is that it sticks to my hands when I mix the stuff, and requires gloves for kneading. Magic-Sculpt and Apoxie Sculpt does not and is therefore easier to mix up on the spot without donning latex.
Raven, I am a sculptor, and not a bone mechanic. There are many materials available that are superior to All-Game where finished detail is concerned. What you employ, and how you employ it had little to do with the man's question. If you read the fine print, the fellow asked ME why I didn't recommend the product. You, of course, have the right to your opinion, but I reserve the right to reply to questions directed to yours truly. If you decide that rebuttal is in order, then you may do so to your heart's content.....after I respond.
Quite frankly in the time you've been gone I've grown quite tired of the childish games that take place here on what is supposed to be a helpful forum - not a place for ppl with agendas and attitudes to make digs at one another. Note that I said 'in the time you've been gone' so I'm not directing this at you. Sometimes people forget that I do more than JUST my job. Some get hung up on the fact that I do dinosaur bones. I also sculpt and paint and when I sculpt - I often use All Game with much success. Like I said - it DOES have it's quirks about it that need to be learned to be employed effectively. I also use Kneadatite - a plumbers line of tinted epoxy putty. So please don't limit yourself to thinking that I'm merely a "bone mechanic" any more than you are a "precious moments mechanic". We all have more in our lives than the little amount we show here though often what we know carries over TO this area. As for answerring a comment not addressed to me? Well since there isn't an "Ask Cur" category, if the person wanted to know something from you and you alone - it would be simple enough to email you directly. They could have clicked on your email in the thread where you actually said you don't recommend All Game. This isn't a personal message board and even when ppl have left messages here directly for me - I always ask them not to do so. If it was meant to be a private conversation it should not have been started on a public forum. As SP said - this is a public forum and when you make a post you should expect that anyone with an answer or opinion be free and entitled to give it. No disrespect was implied or intended. To address "Sick of Raven" yet again... No I will not stay away and no I will not stop answerring questions. If you are not comfortable with that then I am sorry for you, because nothing on my part will change.
There are a lot of nasty people on this site. Almost makes it no fun to even come on here. Ill bet the nice people that started this site almost wish they hadnt.(Im sure there will be a nasty reply to this also, guaranteed)
that post sure didn't sound like the Cur I know. Having a bad day or something? Or is the negativity and bitchiness of this forum that's getting to you too? Still love ya though.
Hey superpig just though I'd say hi. If you read this please e-mail me bighunter90@juno.com How ya been ;)
Raven, you confuse me sometimes, I don't know if I like you or not but either way I liked the way you dealt with Cur. Nobody can "reserve" any kind of rights on a "public" forum. (unless they control the delete button)
Why did ANY of us even look in here, except Dean or Cur? Sheesh! I would reccommend gloves for mixing any of those products, personally. All Game, Model Poxie all feel more "resin-like" to me. Apoxie Sculpt feels more like Silly Putty. I use all of them, in case anyone asks, hahaha. They all work fine, its a personal preference, Id say...
Thanks for everyones answers
since when don't we have a right to check out any post on the forum? So what if there is someones name on here. Is it now forbidden to look at posts that read: to Bill, to Cur, to Raven? If that is the case why don't people just email you directly then or you guys create your own category? But to get your head bitten off because you are trying to help is a bit harsh. I like Cur a lot so don't get me wrong but he is also not the almighty one either. He has an tremendous amount of knowledge there is no doubt and I respect his answers and always go by his advice, but that doesn't mean that is is forbidden for anyone else to give an answer on this post. I couldn't find that in the rules anyway.
That WAS my point, hon...must I explain EVERYTHING to you? Hahaha, got ya again! Thats tongue in cheek, of course we can all weigh in, its a forum...And for anyone out there who thinks Im being mean, etc to superpig, she and I have this exchange ALL the time when we talk. Its in fun, OK?
Im glad you think its fun Bill, whenever we have discussions like this, I get cussed out by her! LOL I have been threatened so badly by her, I get bruises through the phone LOL Only kiding EV, you know your my fave!
