I know most of you are wondering about the plastic bags causing slippage. when I said t oput the critters into a plastic bag and spray with raid, that is what I do and it works. I also skin out everything as soon as it can be done. I do not freeze animals whole as you can have slippage happen while the animal is thawing. Of course you can skin the animal while it is still frozen to, but why? the animals are easyer to skin when fresh andlike, say raccoons for instance,The toes are easyer to invert when nice and flexable and have not started to shrink up from freezer burn. I know time is the biggest factor on skinning out and animal asap, but This is just the way "I" handle the skins. All skins are then salted and dried till I get enough and I then start to tan.

You and I are surely on the same page here. Exactly how I do it.Brad
No different. I take care of all my skinning ASAP from there they get fleshed, salted, and dried. Very seldom do I or should I say my freezer is for fish, skinned out birds and wet tanned skins. Other wise I would need ten freezers for all those whole mammals.
My only difference is I don't bag it and raid so far I've been doing good on the bug area LOL. Have beard and and a tick comb is all I need LOL.
After the hides are totally dried, I put them in plastic woven sacks and then in heavy mill 55 gal. black plastic bags and tag them. Keeping the air and sunlight away from these skins will keep them as fresh as possible. This is for semi-long to long term storage. Try it you will like it. Brad
