I'm trying to get a bear hide ready to go to the tanner. How much fat or clean do I have to get it before I salt it and dry it out. I have it down so that you can see the hair folicles but not all over just most of it... Any help would be appreciated........ thanks Fritz

The cleaner the pelt the better the salt will seat the hair folicles!Those areas where you can not see the hair folicles may still have fleash or fat on the skin.if that fleash is to thick ontop of the skin the salt will not seat the hair well and you risk hair slippage!
