I have a problem with wasps my attic is too small I can not get at the huge nest to break it up...so I got me another idea Im going to put a bird feeder¨or bird bell in the attic vent cause I removed the vent.So I am hoping the birds in the spring will keep the wasps under contol and discouraging them from starting up again

I don't think I have ever seen a bird eat a wasp.
Hi art
I am not a wasp expert but from what I have seen and recall with yellow jacket wasps they do not use the same nest year after year. So I am thinking you need not worry about them setting up house there, this coming year. But to be extra sure I personally would seal everything up with an extra fine window screen mesh so they cannot come or go.
Now even if you have the queen locked in, it shouldn"t take her long to check out permanently.
Good luck
You need to remover the nest as they could be overwintering in the nest still. The wasps surround the queen inside the nest and insulate her til spring. they will almost all die off except the ones toward the center. Come spring, she will start egg production and in short time she will have another coloney. the time it takes to rebuild a new nest isn't needed so she will mas produce eggs and the remaining drones will take care of them. I did pest control for seven years, and wasp nest removal was my specialty. I once had to remove one from a crawl space that was seven feet tall and about twelve feet in diameter. Wasps cannot build a nest of that size in one year. With help of the local entomologist at the local college, he estimated the nest to be of around five to ten years old.
As for bringing in birds, only a few bigger bird species will eat wasps regularly. most of them will not be a welcome additon to your home. the droppings alone will make a unhealthy addition as when the dropping dry out they will become dust particals to be inhaled and could cause sickness or contaminate food with Salmanilla. The dropping will also attract dermestid beattles that will atack your work as well. Not a good thing. I would suggest trying to get the nest out and repairing the area thought to allow the insects entrance and you will keep them from returning.
Thanks for the posts I'll make a extra effort to destroy the nest soon?
