Hi All, I have a full shoulder mount bull elk, recently I discover its back (from base of antler to all the way toward to the end)stiches were all open up,and this head mounted over 10 years ago,I tried pull both side(hide) together, but still seems half inch apart, but the hairs pretty much could touch or overlap each other, ( I hope you fellows understand my description)I need some expertise advance. Please give me all possible solutions or tips to repair. Thanks. Ken

I had a customer brought two elk to me same problem.Guy who mounted them didnt use any glue.Mine were only 3-4 years old but the way I fixed them was to place a wet towel inside the incision where its comming apart. Then I made sure the hide was saturated with water ovenight.Im not sure what type of a tan your mount was done with so you might want to watch it closely,or maybe try a small area first and see if it works. After it sits for a night it should rehedrate and sew up nicely. PS I only rehydrated the first 5-6 inches from the incision,no need to do the whole thing. Good Luck
what part would you normaly wanted to glue? Isn't that the hidepastes purpose? I am very new to taxidermy and was just wondering?

Sam, many people try to skimp on glues, to save a couple dollars.
Sand the complete form, break and remove that glossy film, put glue over 100% of the form. Work as much hide up on the form as you can. Dont pull it tight! This will help stop what you are seeing happened here.
I'll give it a try.Ken
Heh, it dosn't always have to be the quality of the mount that makes it break apart. I mounted two elk up for a guy, and one broke apart the other didn't Both glued all the way to seams, and both sewed with heavy woven string. he one that broke was upstairs and toward the celing of his house about twelve feet in the air. The air was very dry in the upper part of the house, as well as his de-humidifyer was sucking all the moisture from the air in the top floor of his home.
the mounts in the basement stay sewed and do not shrink
All mount should be in a partial humid environment. When I brought tne head home to fix, my basemnet is very humid, the seam actually went back together over night without soaking it. I just sewed it back up the next day with alot more glue under the skin.
