squirrels are a good start if you mess up no big deal get another tree rat. Sometimes you may find a fresh roadkill to practice on.
A lot of hunters kill small deer or does they will make good practice.
if you look around there are many critters to practice on, soon you will have plenty in your freezer to work with and tired hands.
Good luck
Well it depends on how much time you want to put in?
If you have like a couple hrs a week try a Deer Hide! Theyre hard to rip and easy to flesh (without riping) It was the second thing i did and it made a nice rug! Or if you have a small amount of time try rabits.. squirls can be easy but rabits are what i would recomend !
Good Luck!
Brad,
I wouldn't start with a rabbit. Their skin is very thin and tears easily. I don't think I would start with a squirrel either. To small for me. I'd start with a deer shoulder mount and then take it from there. Of course that's just my opinion.
I started with fish and then went on to gameheads, lifesize mammals and then bird.
Good luck to you.
Terri
I would say a squirrel
are whatI started with. Tougher skin and not as tedious to work with as a squirrel. Good luck and have fun with whatever you decide. BP
Do birds only the rest of taxidermy can be a big headache
