John C., I wanted to thank you again for helping me get through tanning my first cape with the auto tanner! I mounted the deer and it looks really good IMO, but the forehead has a greasy feel to it. In the archives I read that someone used DEP hair gel, another used mineral spirits, and yet another uses Dawn detergent. What would you suggest? This is my first mount for someone else and I don't want to screw it up. Thanks for any help you can give! CJ

I have had that problem when using the tanning oil in the tanner.
Put some mineral spirits in a squirt bottle an mist it on the sticky spots and wipe with a clean rag. You may even need a scrub brush to get down deeper.
Let me know what you think caused it!
Good luck.
JC
John C., I didn't put oil in the tanner, but I did oil the cape really well before mounting it. The whole cape felt oily, but after brushing and wiping, only the forehead seemed to feel oily. The hair on the forehead is really thick on this deer. Big red curls between the antlers. Thanks, CJ
pine pitch? had that on the forehead of a buck i shot and mounted. there where rubs all over spruce trees!
