Advice for someone thinking about the field

I have been considering a career in taxidermy. Can you really learn to be a taxidermist through watching videos? Or is it better to attend one of the schools that teach taxidermy? And if so what schools have current taxidermists attended and do you recommend? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Get a basic working knowledge first. Then think about a school, few schools teach more than basic's just not enough time is 4-6 weeks.

I would recommend you go to the World Taxidermy Championships in April 2003. That would be a great place to start.

Get the Breakthrough MANUALS read them this will let you understand much about taxidermy. They are text books.

Thank You

John C. Thank you very much. I went to the Breakthrough Magazine site and ordered the Breakthrough Manuals today. I can't wait until they arrive. I also have been scouring throught the "Beginners Archives." Great stuff!

Another route you might want to think about is finding a local taxidermist and working with them, when you can. You can use both the manuals and the hands on to learn the best of what they both have to offer.
