stretch it

All kidding aside, stretch it. It is not unusual for a cape to be stretched vertically during a tanning/fleshing process, much like a sock. Grip it under the ears and pull it wider, then continue the stretching further down the neck...I think you will be pleased. Good luck, and happy mounting.

Stretch it

You probably tried already, but when I tan my own capes, they hang for periods of time, and it tends to stretch them lengthwise. You will need to stretch it back out aroung the neck area. I use the blunt end of a fleshing tool some times if I really need to work it, or usually I can just pull some with my hands. Good luck.

Saw this done and it works

Use your fleshing beam. Turn the cape hairside in and use a dull object (backside of a fleshing drawknife works) and act like you're fleshing it again. Really apply pressure and work for GIRTH not LENGTH. Use outward-angling strokes. That should give you an inch at least, if the hide is thin and the tan is good. But make sure you've got the hair underneath laying flat or you can break some off.

did you forget
