Ok guys went to the NWTF show here in Nashville.Man those are some big deer.I was able to get up close to some fantastic mounts and have a question.I noticed alot of deer lips in the show.I think the nicer looking lip work was done with what appeared to be a little bottom lip that looked almost under tucked almost as if it were folded out a little bit right in the front of the mouth with a little black paint on that 3/4 inch pooched lip.That was the only place I saw paint on the entire mount.It really looked professional.The second thing I noticed was the nostrils of the deer.Some were shallow but it appeared to me that the nostrils that were drilled out quite a bit deeper toward the front of the manniken also looked a little nicer.All of these mounts were being judged.Can some one explain to me the procedure for getting the lip to look like that in the front?It seemed quite nice.I also think that those deep nostrils looked great as well.I saw some open mouth mounts with the deer licking his upper lip that were simply incredible all the way to the back of the throat.I can only hope that my mounts will look that good one day.Thanks for any insight you pros could give me on this.Big J

What you are seeing in the nose, is what we are seeing inthe nose of live or fresh deer.
The distance in the very front of the nose is no more than close to a 1/8th inch thick and not much more than that on the top. Then you have the nasal floor, its not a big gapping hole.
Get some reference photos and the next time you see mounts of this quality compare what you see in the mount with what you see in the photo.
Next time you have a fresh deer laying there, stick you finger in its nose and feel, same thing for eyes, ears.
Then find you a live deer you can pet, feel this deer and compare.
