Color me happy

Yesterday was a big day for me, It started with taking my squirrel out of the tan, rinsing him, draining and oiling (of course you kow the drill. I let the oil soak for 4-5 hours and started the clay work on my already prepared mannikin. To make it short and sweet my squirrel is mounted on the habitat base I made, his front paws holding the chewed up antler and I must say...even with the pins still in place he looks great.
Yes I can find little things that could be improved upon and Im certin the old pros or a judge could pick it apart, but Im also certain that a customer would be very happy with the end results of this squirrel.
This is not my first finished project but it is the first one since Ive found taxidermy.net and the knowledge gained in the last three months really shows on this one. Makes me want to throw my old stuff out the door, but I wont even though there is no comparison. I feel Im well on my way to becoming a good taxidermist and am looking foreward to my next project, a raccoon which is at this time on the salt rack. I have another raccoon in the freezer whole and another coming, plus a skunk (Im nervous about that one but found some great tips in the archives last night).
I know I still have much to learn and experience before I can claim to be in the same category as many of you but I know I can and will get there in time. I just want to thank those of you who have given your time and advise to help me see what really needed to be learned and accomplished before I simply stretched a preserved hide over a mannikin and stuck it on the wall.
Sincerely
Ron
