Today I received a freshly killed young coyote and its a beauty. My wife would like a rug but Id prefer a life size mount but it may only be suitable for a shoulder or pedistal mount. The guy who shot it must have used a small cannon by the size of the hole in him, though Im thinking I may be able to sew it up. However, the dog has a small spot of mange on the back and Im just not sure what would be best to do. Im going to skin and salt him now and I should know more after Im finished. I do know he is a good looking dog and I shure would like to do a L/S with him thinking the rug is out of the question.

If it has mange get rid of it NOW

A supportive wife can be a big assett to a guy who brings dead stuff into the house. I would either do the rug for her- unless the mange spot is too obvious- or get her another for a rug. Coyotes are cheap and there are plenty to go around. Perhaps you could get another for your full body mount. Just my opinion. PatrickR
Speaking from experience here. I have a supportive wife and I also have several friends that don't have that support. Let me tell you, there is a world of difference. Keep your spouse happy and you'll have many years of other opportunities. Great advise Patrick!

Whenever my girlfriend asks me to do something, I do the opposite. It's great! Sometimes you can actually see her face get red with anger right before your eyes. It's not a full day unless I can piss her off somehow. So take my advice, unless your scared of her killing you in your sleep or something....
Good Luck!
Im all for making the wife happy and the rug was high on the list of options but...the mange thing worried us both so...I trimmed him off at the shoulders well above the mane spot and have prepared him for a nice pedestal mount. As was stated, coyotes are cheap and easy to come by so the next speciman I get in good condition wil be my wifes rug.
You won't regret it! :o PatrickR
It doesn't sound (from your description) that this coyote was really much of a prize anyway...I have to admit that anything that seems to have been shot with a cannon, and possibly has mange would not qualify as a beautiful speciman to me, and unless on the rare and endangered species list, would be tossed immediately...

Good move. I also tell my girlfriend things she wants to know.
Good Luck!
