Any Missouri Taxidermist

Submitted by Ray on 02/20/2003. ( ) 66.112.43.116

I was wonder if any Missouri Taxidermist could answer a couple of questions for me.

1. Who can a Missouri Taxidermist buy hides(as in bobcats, fox, or coyotes) from? ( And do you have to have a different type of liscense to buy hide for mounting or something?)

2. What is the kind of paper work is needed from the person you buy from.

3.Can you buy bobcat hides from an individual and mount them and sell them to someone else?

4. What kind of paperwork do you send with a mounted bobcat that you sell? (And What info. needs to be on the paperwork?)

I talked to a conservation agent about some of these things and he didnt help me much! By the way I understand him is that a Missouri taxidermist could not buy hides. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Ray

The questions. Be to the point and ask them to give you the citation number.

No for you to have a cat on your own, may be different, but dont cross the state lines without the cities tag.

You need a fur buyers license, and can still be a taxidermist. Any Bobcat must have the Cities tag. You will have forms Supplied by Jeff.City to fill out. Seller must have the proper license to harvest and sell the fur.

Call him back and have him/her meet with you over a cup of coffeee and walk you thru the reg. book.

Hi!
Saw your post, thought I add my two cents...
As to your questions,
#1: A Taxidermist must have a taxidermy license to accept animals for mounting ($50? Sorry, not sure the exact amount). In order to BUY furs, you must also have either a Fur Buyers License ($100/year) or a Fur Dealers License ($300/year). A Fur Buyers License entitles you to purchase furs/pelts from individuals that have the proper hunting/trapping licenses for same. You can buy up to two weeks past close of the particular season(s). A Fur Dealers License lets you buy/sell year around. You'll be provided with a record book from the MDC, which is pretty self-explanatory. Bobcats and Otter are to be tagged. Don't take one in to buy or mount without one! From what I understand, once the animals are mounted, you can sell them.

I'm located in south-central Missouri. This is our first season buying furs/pelts. Like John C said, ask for a copy of the MO regulations. It's all explained in there, along with the season openings/closings. And ask MDC the same questions you posted here. You can call Jeff City with your questions, and I'm sure someone there will be more than happy to help.

Good luck!
