Go stainless by all means ,us regular folks have formica -it works just fine
I had a sheet metal shop at the place I work make a simple z bend in stainless sheet for a toper to my wood bench. Works great. I also had one made for my taxidermy teacher. He loves it. They cost me 2 cases of beer to the guys in the shop. Not bad.
But, I saw a stainless work table, restaraunt work table style, at Sam's Club. The price was $99.00. Well worth it. If you have a Sam's near you, you might want to check it out or see if they have an online store you can buy it from. That would be my choice if I didn't have my bench already.

HA- what an incentive ? I prefer counter tops with formica myself. inexpensive too.
I have 2 food proccessing plants fairly close by that let me go through their scrap boneyard. All the stainlees you need usually for free. I fabricated 2 tables completely of stainless . 1 5/8 strut, brkts, and table top for free. The welds I made arent to pretty but its very sturdy and easy to clean!
thank ya'll for the input. i have a resturant close by that closed and a rv dealer bought the building, been trying to talk them out of one the tables that was left in the biulding but no luck yet. stainless is a little high but will not have to be replaced. i think i will try to get a stainless one. thanks for all the help. ken
