i have a frozen squirrel and was gonna skin it for my first mount and was wondering if i should cut down the back bone and out the tail or cut down the belly and out the tail i an going to have the squirrel eating a nut or prolly climbing up the wall if someone could answer this and tell me what one would be better it would be appriciated greatly thanks

Tim, eating a nut facing you down the back would be best for seam would be in back, attention away from main focus, the nut. just the opposite if climbing a tree. But you could do case skin which is from foot to foot. Less sewing that way. Just my opinion. Good luck Kevin

Tim, I would not use a dorsal cut on a squirrel...awful short haired makes it difficult to hide the stitches. Belly skin for a climbing squirrel and case skin or belly skin for sitting squirrel. I break the feet off of the form and rebuild the feet with clay- makes fitting the skin lots easier.Also no need to split the tail- just slip the bones out and mount. Enjoy, Aaron H.

i hust finished my first squirell and i cut him up the back. he was sitting up eating a nut and it turned out pretty good i think. gotta remeber the tail can hide the stiches on the back.
