im fully aware of the d/p vs liqua tan debate,has anyone ever thought of offering both to our customers?down here in texas im surrounded by dry preservers,285.oo for a sh/mnt,i was taught the liqua tan method,im at 335.oo and struggling.just wondering if offering both has been tried?obviously wet tanning would be more.

Have you ever honestly figured out what it is costing you to tan your own hides? How much time, at your regular shop rate? It is beyond me how someone can realistically say that they can tan a deer hide for less than a commercial tannery. There may be other advantages, but cost ain't one of 'em!
Is your work worth what you are charging? Can you honestly see any difference between tanning and DPing? If the answers are "no", then maybe you need to save yourself the effort and DP. But before you do, I'll tell you that your DISCERNING customers can and do see the difference and if they can't afford your prices, you don't need them anyway. Just figure this: Your "competition" is making $28,500 gross on 100 Deer. You can do 15 deer LESS than they do and still make the same money. PLUS you won't have to explain why the eyes cracked and the ears drummed 3 to 5 years down the road.
Robert remember that someone is always cheaper no matter how low you are. You need to make your mounts and business worth more and your competitors "worth-less" in comparison in the eyes of your clients. It starts with a clean shop and your personal appearence and presence, quality work, good turn around time and excellent tanning and on and on... Then charge what you have to make a good wage AND profit or else be good to yourself and quit full time taxidermy.
