I was noticing alot of waterfowl for sale . I was told by another local taxidermist in my area it was illegal to buy or sell waterfowl. I am from Missouri, and am a beginner, so I need critters to practice on. I have thought about buying some of the ducks I have seen advertised but dont want to get in trouble.I have searched the internet to try and find out what Missouris laws are concerning this but all I keep getting are laws on duck hunting. Does anyone know where I can look to find out what is legal and what is not.

Howdy from Missouri!
You can buy waterfowl as long as they were captive-raised and you have proof from the seller they were. I haven't bought any waterfowl, but I *think* the captive raised have clipped toes(toenails?) and/or have pinioned wings. In order to accept wild waterfowl for mounting (and crows, too!) you have to have a federal migratory bird permit. Think it costs something like $36/3 years, and keep the necessary paperwork up for the Feds, which is no problem. Pretty simple, actually.
Email if you have any more questions! Hope this helps!
You must state which yuo will be using when you apply for the permit to raise them.
Right hind toe clipped
Tattoed webs right foot.
USFWS Solid ring bands, placed shortly after birth.
or pinioned wings amputated at the last joint.
I'm not commenting or warning anyone on here anymore, as those that sell fish on here just think I resent the competition, as I sell private pond raised fish.
But trust me the laws on fish are as much more complicated than birds. Some states don't allow you to sell gamefish -- period. So if one of those fish is in your freezer when you get checked...
