The state association would be composed of members who are very understanding of the rules to operate as a taxidermist in your state (each state is different). Also, the state meetings would be closer to you and more than likely cheaper to attend.
The choice of the IGT or NTA will vary for each person - they both have national meetings and publish journals/newsletters. However, I would first make sure you subscribe to both Breakthrough and Taxidermy Today as those contain much more information.
You should attend a National Meeting sometime just to get the experience - The World Show would be my personal first choice, The NTA my second, and the IGT my third - but those would change if a national meeting was just down the road.
They are two completely seperate shows. One is based on unity and friendships made, one is based on a long standing membership across the country, with a achievement award points system. Both are fun, both are valuable tools to a person who sees the value. In my opnion they dont compete against eachother. I have enjoyed being involved with both.
