I know this question has been beaten to death but I'm gonna ask any way. I have read so many people writing about how it is inferior and so on. The only thing is it seems that the people saying it is so bad have never used it, they are just going by what they have read. So this question is only for the people who have alot of experience with it. Has anyone who has used it really ever had any problems with it? I'm not talking about the way it feels or anything, just problems like the flesh rotting away and falling off the form. Any comments from JOhn C aka. "ASS CLOWN" will be accepted as anything but arrogance.

Are you really that stupid to think that by insulting an experienced taxidermist you're going to be received as anything other than a jerk on here? Read the archives and when you get to my input, just imagine 25 years of using DP before switching to tanning. That shouldn't be such a challenge to such a smart ass as you seem to be.
Eplain you last statement, I am just a dumb ole Hillbilly and don't understand it.
Ok Jerk here's the deal, mount up several deerheads with DP, let them dry about a week, now stick your out of joint nose close to them. Closer then that, like your kissing my rearend.
Now you will see why we dont like DP it stinks like your breath.
So what would you attribute that stench of those deerheads to?
Little bugs, bacteria, hum one more thing, if it stinks like crap it probley is crap or so I am told.
I do from time to time use DP, but a far better chice than DP woulfd be Ben Mears Spray tan.
Go on Powder Jockey do it you way anyhow, Do you use a hide paste? Why not?
Here is a challenge for you, since you are so smart. Use all the different methods of preserving a deerhide.
No use all the different hide paste.
What is the results? You are the brain child do that and send me the results by snail mail.
Sincerly your big Hillbilly buddy.

Had several whitetail mounts done with DP and had none of the above problems, some mounts are from 12 to 13 years old and still look just as good as any other mount!
I have switched to professionally tanned hides this year, as I live in the land of the wood stoves. I was getting calls from customers whose heads developed eye cracks over the years due to the intense dry heat. After several fix-ups, I decided to switch. Love the tanned capes and they smell great too! Piper
wchare if you'll flesh it real well you wont have these problems these other guys are having, its not as bad as their saying, they send their capes off and let someone else do their work !
Dont normally respond like this but the hell with it! Sounds like your just looking for someone to take you by the hand and say "there there, dont listen to the guys with all that experiance, use dp its soooo easy and quick and cheap!" I've used both and if you want to stay "bush league" stick with the dp! Do you really think these experianced full time taxidermist would spend the extra time and money on tanning if they did'nt think it important! Whew! I feel better...how about you? Hey JohnC dont get worked up....is'nt worth your time! I'll continue tanning as i plan on working in this trade for the rest of my days.
i would like to give you some other witty reply but the only one left is "yeah what they said!" ive tried it and it is definately inferior to any tan ( ooops!, in my opinion)...does that mean it has no place in my shop? well no! however anything more than a squirrel or a blue jay would not be doing such a specimen any justice with it....good day

(experiance)! letting someone else do your tanning for you! Goood experiance!
Was your question necessary, I don't think so. All the info in the world about Dp is in the archives. I think you just wanted to stir up some trouble. As I see it your the f#$%^ing ass clown. Maybe you'll find another place to go as for me I wont answer any more of your posts.
Now think about some of the responses you miraculously turned up. Do some research on what tanning truly does for a hide. Is it worth taking the chance of having to explain something to a customer a few years down the road. Pay the extra to achieve quality and your customers will pay to have it ! And insulting someone who may be beneficial to you in the future is no way to go. Chill out, smell the roses, instead of your capes! Jeff-
That next kicking-in-your-door will be the FEDS. BLUE JAYS are illegal to mount...Song Birds, ya know.
WCHAR..."What They Said".
[Sidebar - I've used Borax Pickle for decades and all my mounts are as goods as day they were mounted. I'm referring to Pheasants-Squirrels-Weasels-Pigions-etc.
No fallout hair, fur or feathers...no bugs...no foul smells...just good Taxidermy work...
Deer and other Heads and hides are tanned]

I've never used a commercially tanned cape. But I have tanned them myself and I have used dp. I do know that the best tan in the world will not make a bad taxidermist good. I've seen tanned capes crack around the eyes over time also. Leather will crack. Don't believe me... set a pair of boots or a saddle up for a few years and never oil them, they will crack.
Either way you go, you have to have good skills. Thin the capes really well around the eyes, nose and mouth. Use a good hide paste. If you use dp, use an epoxy like Epo-Grip or killer glue. (Epo-Grip is easier to use).
I, personally, have never had any trouble with dp. Doesn't mean I won't somewhere down the line. But I can also say the same for tans.
I like to try different methods. But so far I haven't seen any major differences in the finished product. I am planning on trying a commercially tanned hide soon just because I like to have experience. Who knows, I might find something I like better.
So try them all and see which "you" prefer. There is more than one way to skin a cat. Just remember, the tan won't make up for lack of skill and knowledge. Good luck. BP
I love getting you guys going. The only reason I singled out John C was because a couple of weeks ago I asked a good honest beginner question and he answered me like I was an idiot. Well if he wasn't such an idiot he would have noticed when I put in the question that I was a beginner a nice simple answer would be appriciated. Like the old saying goes "you get more bees with honey than with sh*t. And so far from all the replies I have seen him post all he does is spout a bunch of sh*t. I'm sorry if I offended anyone but all I wanted was an honest answer not a line of bull. I know some of you guys are probably his buddies and I feel sorry for you having to stick up for him. Now go wipe your tears and your nose "cuz you got some of John C's brown stuff on it" and everything will be alright.
I answered you with an honest answer. And let me give you another HONEST answer. I have never met John C, but he has answered me several times, both on here and by e-mail, in a very honest and professional way. Now I know why some of the guys on here get snippy. People like you make them that way. You don't really want any help, you just want to stir up crap. Now you can go cry to your mommy that someone hurt your little feelings. I've got better things to do than to babysit. BP
What she said...Lose your attitude dude and pay attention to these guys and you just might learn something...or just be a smart a** and stay stupid, I could care less just stop wasting good space on this forum and air in my world.
Shood I stik up fur ya agen heer? Ya nose what happens evry time I duz...hah.
Oh hell...here goes ennyway...
WCHAR...You must have been behind the screen door when brains were passed out because all that's oozing out is the schidt overload coming over your eyeballs.
John C is one of the most upstanding Taxidermists you can ever hope to find...and if he throws a crumb of intellectual bread your way...you'd do respect to kiss his ass for the favor.
John helps many people here on the forums and has been doing so for five years...beginners and learning pros.
It's assholes like you with a chip on your shoulder who comes out calling names and asking favors in the same breath. Reminds me of another 'Forked Tongue' I know. Now...put on your Dunce cap and sit in trhe corner for the rest of your sicko life, you moron.
~ ETCC sed dat.
I say they add a forum in here strictly for arguing, swearin', and name callin'! We can call it the Jerry forum. Ass clowns only. By the way, since we're on the subject of ass clowns, are they terribly hard to "mount"? Heh Heh Heh.
