If I am taking the skull out of a fox can I use borax to help get it out, Then still salt and continue on with the process? For moisture and grip control cf course.

Or, you can use...salt! I use salt just because its there already, its going to have to get salted, and the salt does the same as the borax as far as getting a grip. It makes the skin and carcass sweat and messy, but hey, what the heck, right?

borax will raise the ph up alot, and you will have a hard time maintaining the ph in your pickle. Try using salt instead. it will give you plenty of grip and will soak out moisture.

For grip control on a slippery hide I use a handful of hardwood sawdust that I rub in. I get if for free from a cabinet shop and it works great.
