I have a mule deer cape, wet tanned, that has a serious rub on the chin. Should I attempt to cut out the rub and replace it with a whitetail chin before I mount it, or should I mount it, let it set up for a day and then cut out the rub and replace it? I don't have an extra mule deer cape, but it seems similar to a WT in this area. The customer is aware of the rub, but wants his original cape. Thanks for any help.

This is just my opinion, but since your customer wants the original cape, I would just leave it the way it is. A lot of deer have scares and scrapes on them. And if this is a trophy someone shot, Just mount it up as is.

an area is rubbed, if it is not to large, you can cut out this area in a football shape, then just sew it back together and not know anything was wrong, (use small stiches). You call it serious, if that is the case, the whole chin must be bare? To a beginner it might be serious, but in all reality it might be an every day thing for us regulars. Let us know the size of the bare area. LOL.

Your as good as gold. The customer knows of the problem. He want's the same cape mounted and, not replaced. What's the dilemma?
