Sam;
I'd love to help you out, and probably so would a lot of other people on the forum. But I really don't believe too many of us has mounted, let alone skinned out a kangroo. I myself personally don't have the slightest idea what to do with one. I'd have to say contact a taxidermist in australia. I'm sure there is someone that will give you the advice your looking for. Sorry I couldn't help you anymore.

but logic would seem to dictate that the pouch would have to be split, just like an ear, eyelid or lip...it is basically the same thing...folded over skin. I would suggest that you try to do it. In the worst case scenerio, you may just have to strip the inside off of it and stitch the opening closed once its tanned. Do us a favour and report back on how it turns out...good luck!

sorry samantha

I sometimes skip over the ones I feel are kinda obvious, no hard feelings. ANY fold of skin has to be split and seperated. If you arent going to show or replicate the pouch and are planning to leave it closed, then just cut it out from the inside. If youre going to show it, split it to its edges and treat it like a lip. One side is overlapped, the other side is the inner side.

You must split the pouch , it is the outer dermis that has a fold the inner dermis where the tits are located are not double and is very weak skin,much like canis belly skin. hope that helps , I'm sorry I didn't see your other post.

thanks people

I really do understand about this being an american site (as i mentioned in the other post),but i know a few aussies get on here too. :)
I also thought since you all, seem to do just about everything else (lucky you), in your neck of the woods............ Sorry.

Yes, Bill, i know it was obvious and i had a feeling it 'did have' to be done, i just wanted/needed, a confirmation before i pulled out the scalpel. lol.
No point ruining a , hard to find in the cities, pelt just because i was afraid to ask. :)

Anyhow, i am hoping, and undoubtedly will, find a dead one on our holliday out bush in a few weeks and wanted to be prepared.

Thanks again everyone. :)

Same as our possum pouch

Your basic marsupial isn't much different than our marsupial. I did a large female possum last weekend and the pouch was quite developed. The pouch must be skinned and split, and if you want a formed pouch, you will most likely need to line it with celastic or sheet metal or a thin epoxy. If your 'roos are anything like possums though, the skin will be VERY thin. Good luck.

Great stuff, you must be phsyic. L.o.L.
I was going over the 'lining a pouch', yes/no, question thing last night.
After all, it would look pretty silly just...hanging there.(and i guess it would shrink/shrivel if i didnt do something with it).
Thanks.
