I'm sure a ton of you will get a laugh over this one, but what is this type of mount? Is it just a fancy way of saying open mouth mount or is it a certian pose. Take it easy one me guys, only been doing this for about 6 months lol

Flehmen is what a male mammal does to check if a female is reseptive. They capture some scent in what I believe is called the jacobsons organ. Cats and ungulates(spelling) have great facial expressions while doing this. Bob C

Good Question...

Joe,
I hope you don't stop asking questions because you are affraid of what others might say. The flehmen position is a natural facial expression. It is different from an open mouth. The nose of the deer usually flattens and goes back towards the eyes with wrinkles occuring behind the nose. The lower lip usually opens up and drops forward. The McKenzie cataloge has a good picture of this on page 304. Good Luck!

in several dealer catalogs. It is used to replace the artificial nose on the form you are using to mount the cape.
