Hello, got a question. I was looking through some old boxes recently and found some samples of Blue Whale baleen that I obtained in 1988.
I was involved at the time in an wildlife course. There was a beaching of a 70 ft blue whale, so a few students and I went to see it, helped out some other scientists do some measuremnets and such. I cut off 3 pieces of baleen all measuring 6 inches by 1 foot(give or take). I live on PEI, Canada. Was going to sell a piece on ebay, then started to wonder if this was legal or not, due to it being an endangered animal. What do you think?

It would be illegal to sell in the US or ship to the US. The blue whale is endangered, and the US also has the marine mammal protection act as well. Not sure what Canada's law would be. You would have to check with your province as well as the Canadian Wildlife Service.

Read e-bays policie page before you think about it, it states that no whale parts other than legally obtained whale teeth can be sold. Also, since you are advertising it on e-bay, you are offering it in places where it is illegal to even touch a dead whale without federal prosecition. Just forget it and throw em on the grill. The Feds opractically live on e-bay, you are just asking for jail time. It may or not be legal to seel it in canada, but omnce you put it on a world wide auction, you are breaking the law!
