Beginners set up...

Ok bought an airbrush and I have a few questions so bare with me....

1. Is a oil/water seperator the same thing as a moisture trap? the one a saw goes right below the spray gun or airbrush.

2. I plan on spraying oil based paint. what will I need to thin/retard the paint, and to clean the brush?

3. Is there a certian consistancy I'm try to get when spraying oil paint? is milk thickness good? thicker or thinner?

4. Anyother thing that I'm probally overlooking would be helpfull to hear.

I'm just trying to get set up so I can start practicing. I'm on my way, in a couple mins, to the library to get some instructional book that tell about this art and maybe have some practice exercises in it. I was just seeing if anyone on hear could give me any heads up on anything. Every bit of info is extremly helpfull to me right now. Thanks everyone!

AND OIL PAINT AIN'T IT!. Painting oils with a brush is bad enough, but trying to force it through an air brush is lunacy. Buy the premixed acrylics or lacquers.

Everyone is telling me to use oil based paints and not to use water based. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't acrylics water based and lacquers are oil based?

This is part of the reason I posted this because I'm not up on all the termanolgy...so if I want to use oil based I would get lacquer paint right?

You're correct in your observations and assumptions...about the water and oil 'based' paints.
George just had a bad day trying to paint his house porch using house paint in a airbrush...LMAO.
