What kind of clay is used by the top scupltors for creating the positives for form molds. I assume it is a plastilene as opposed to a water based clay? Thanks

Oil Based Clay such as Roma Sulfur Free or Kleen Klay.
They two things to look for are oil based so it never dries out, and sulfur free as sulfur can retard the cure of silicones.
Personal preference enters after that as there are varying hardnesses of clay. I prefer a harder clay as it holds sharp detail and doesn't mush when applying silicone.
