Freeze a salted cape?

Submitted by JP on 04/14/2003. ( ) 165.121.80.240

Hey, Got another question for the forum. Can a cape be fozen after it has been split, turned and salted? I have capes I would like to sell and green/frozen is presenting an overnight shipping cost most people do not want to incur. I realize I can dry them after salting. I just was curious about the option of freezing. Thanks a lot. JP

you would be better off if you just salted them and dried them.the salt is used to dry the hides out, were if you put those hides back in the freezer you have the chance of remoiserizing the hide through condensation.good luck

Funny are you charging extra for salted ried hides?

I find it silly that people are not willing to pay the few dollars extra to ship next day. What are they thinking? If they dont have the extra money, I dont think they should be trying to buy the capes anyway. When I buy a hide, I am willing depending on weather to pay for the extra shipping, I call it insurance, cheap insurance.

The prefered method to buy capes is either salted dry or tanned , don't salt and freeze that is not a good idea.
