Hello everyone I guess Im just looking for some input other than family. Due to a physical problem Ive been off work for about 5 months and now my boss isnt going to take me back. So Im thinking about going to a taxidermy school druing the time off. I couldnt go b4 because of money issues I still have none but do have some comming to me from my job. I know starting a taxidermy shop wont just happen over night and will take many years to get going well enough to support me and my family. But due to my situation not many place will even think about hiring me as Im a risk to become injured again. Ok now a question would you suggest a school or work shops with differant people. I have looked into a few but any suggestions would be nice. I thank you all for letting me get this off my chest but sometimes people you never have met listen and give honest answers than friends. Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks again ,Andrew

Andrew,
There are a number of folks here that have some sort of physical problem that prevents them from doing other jobs, so they're much better qualified than me in giving you first hand advice on this matter. But, without having you publicly describe your impairment, which of course we wouldn't ask you to do, it's difficult to give you "best" advice. I can tell you that I recently had an associate in my shop as I did one deer shoulder mount, start to finish. He is retired from law enforcement for a back injury and found it difficult to do what I was doing because of the simple ergonomical aspects of standing at the moutning stand, leaning over, pulling on the cape, and so forth. SOme other areas of taxidermy may very well be fine for you. Doing a little on-the-job internship in a working shop may very well find you what you're looking for. In any event, best of luck in your quest.

from my perspective...

I offer one of those workshops. But I still maintain that experience is the best teacher, and the videos available these days are a real nice starting point. You can play and replay them for a lot less money then paying me for a beginner or advanced class. You can play the tapes even while you are doing your own mount. The workshops are definitely a great way to excellerate the process, but they of course, cost more! Feel free to contact me if you need specific help this way...
