YOU NEVER FREEZE A DP HIDE. DP is only powdered on the hide immediately before it is mounted. If the hide had to be frozen, freezing it is sufficient. Freezing doesn't stop the alum, borax, and talc from drying the hide out. Now you're faced with a rehydration process.

Put some Downey clothes softener (I better say a cap full so you don't pour the whole jar in) in 5 gallons of WARM tapwater. Let it set there for half an hour, then let it drip dry. Then towel it off and when you decide to mount it, DP it again RIGHT BEFORE YOU MOUNT IT.

thanks!

I did this same thing on my first squirrel. Make sure you dry the hair real good after rehydration. I didn't on mine and I had terrible slippage...(half the hair on the tail came off)

Never apply D.P. unless you are going to mount immediately
