I have never tanned skins for mounting. I have only used dry preservative. I have looked at the different tanning products available and Ben Mears Spray Tan looks like an easy one to use...
Is it good for a beginner to use? How well does it work? What kind of stretch do you get? Any advise is appreciated.

There is a lot of discussion on this product. You will have to decide for yourself.
I have to reply, yes it is a great preservative. Why do we need a true tan?I have no idea, however about 35 years ago I went to a NTA convention and saw some incredible work, and all of the good work was done with tanning. I learned all I could and hired Sinclair Clarke to teach me fleshing and refine my tanning, what a wonderful experience.I eventually settled on Lu Tan with formic pickle and used same for years. A few years back I became familar with pressure tanning, but was not happy until the introduction of Arrowhead tanning crystals, which I used and still do. On a bet I tried Ben Mears spray tan and cant believe the results could be so good. When I started tanning my goal was a better product for my customers, and I can find nothing wrong with this system. I`ve seen some 6 year old mounts using this and they look great. Here in the deep south we deal with high humidity and i`ve had problems with heads in hunting camps all year with no humidity control[a common practice] , and spray tan with epoxy glue has solved this problem. The best looking commercial mounts I`ve seen have been done with spray tan!I should add also competition mounts! Final analysis A+.
you should give Paul Witts Sure Cure a try. its similar to Mears but i feel a little better product. i trained with Paul for 8 months and sure cure is all he uses, and not because its his product. hes not a big supply company, just a working taxidermist in search of a better product.he also has sculpteed a line of forms that Kings Supply in Corinth MS. carries.Matter of fact the world was won on one of them a few years ago.Call kings supply and give Sure Cure a shot. youll like it. about 35.00 a gallon
I have been using Ben's Spray Tan for four years now and it has been an excellent product for me. When you follow his process, you get excellent stretch and minimal shrinkage. To top it off, Ben will help you in any way and answer any questions you have concerning this product. Give it a try and I think you will like it!
