Oily Tanned Mink

Submitted by Dan on 04/22/2003. ( ) 63.238.214.41

I tanned a mink four days ago and it is still pretty oily.
I used the standard procedure:
flesh, salted, resalted, acid bath, shave, washed, returned to the acid bath, neturalized, rinse, then tanned.
I did shave as much fat off as I could then washed it in dawn dish soap with a little Van Clean ( I now know I should of used a degreaser solvent). I then rinse and returned it back to the acid bath.
Is there a way to remove the oil off of it, now that it is tanned? Is it to late to try some solvent on it or will that ruin the tan...

Thanks
Dan

What kind of tan did you use and did it call for oiling afterwards. If you over oiled it no problem wash it in pert shampoo twice rinse well and tumble in your dryer set on cool with plenty of old towels in it.

wash it in Pert shampoo. I have done this also on mammals that were already mounted and dried. I just Lather rinse and repeat if necessary LOL.
