I just watched my newest video..."Mounting a Strut Turkey" with Frank Newmeyer, last night and boy was I disapointed. Maybe Sallie Dahmes has me spoiled but in my opinion Frank should leave the videos to somebody else. This video might be better titled "A study of Frank Newmyer" as it wasted much of my time and money telling me his opinions and preaching from a soapbox and he constantly goes off topic to do so. Frank also assumes way too much from a person doing a turkey for the first time.
I wanted to learn more about skinning and preserving my turkey and Frank didnt even have the decency to show how he cut the skin up.
Frank Newmyer can produce a beautiful bird mount, of that I have no doubt, and this is by no means a personal attack on the man but as a video instructor and I feel like I got ripped out of 25 bucks plus shipping and handling.
To the beginner I highly recommend any tape by Sallie Dahmes as she is focused, thourough and highly professional in her approch to teaching the novice.
I wont say the tape was a total loss as I did pick up a few things but for the most part, Im still left in the dark, and Im not happy about that.

I see you've learned what I've always harped on here. True artisans can't always explain the "magic" they have in their hands. Ted Williams was a poor baseball manager but the greatest hitter who ever lived. It's said that Peter Hathaway Capstick was a make believe hunter, but NO ONE tells the tales any better. Not always the rule, but the old adage should be respected, "Them that can, do, them that can't, teach."
