Question for CUR- cast heads

Submitted by Ben Johnson on 05/10/2003. ( ) 66.53.69.135

I just read Cur's directions for casting fish heads with alginate. I understood the instructions- I just don't get how to mount the cast head on a foam body with the skin. Any insights on this are appreciated. Thanks

This is the problem with adressing a statement to one person - I don't think Cur is even here anymore? Haven't seen him on the forum for months. I believe he still pops in to Kiwis chat tho.

Anyway - Attaching heads to foam bodies is easy and there are lots of ways to do it. It can be as simple as having a couple of wires protruding from the back of the head that get kabobed into the body and epoxied into place - or as elaborate as some freaky weird corkscrew system I saw once. Then you simply apply your filler or putty of choice and blend out the seam - paint as normal...

There are also plenty of books and videos that demonstrate how to attach artifical heads to bodies.

I'm sure several other highly skilled fish people here will be able to help you out as well =)

Raven, I know, you asked my not to call you that anymore. But people=), have also asked you to not answer post to other people=). It Cur is not here so be it, but I am sure he is, and he would have answered the question. Now, again, others have told you, if you want to go and start your own thread on this subject, go ahead. But don't post for someone else. I do not see why that should be so hard, if no one post an answer, I am sure the poster, could then ask for anyone. Maybe you will think this is nit-picken, but it is a pet-peeve to me and some others. Besides that, your response is wrong. rw

Randal... grow up...

Anyone can answer any post - it's a public forum and this issue has been discussed before... the end.

As for being wrong - I am in no way wrong. Perhaps the way I listed is not the way you choose to do your mounts - but they are ways they can be done. I CLEARLY said for anyone interested more in learning and helping than in making digs... there are many ways to do it, and I also said that others would have other advice. If you have a better idea - post it. Yet you chime in only to make digs.

Funny how you'll email me and ask for help but on the forum you only have negative things to say about me.... In short - be helpful or be quiet. Have a nice day.

Hey Randal, no offense, but why not post your answer to the question instead of just criticizing the other guy's. your answer will be appreciated.

Here's my two cents

I use the foam insulation in a can you find at hardware stores. I wait until I get 6 or 7 fish that need heads attached. I drill small hole in the top and bottom of the head for a large pins. Mask off the body of the fish with tape that is not too adhesive. I next fill the head partially with the foam and attach the head. I push the pins into hold in place and let it set overnight.

Allow for expansion when adding foam and you will have the best connection you can have. Putties don't bond as well and sometimes you can get a hairline crack where the head meets the body later on.

I really don't think Cur will be offended if I give it a crack.
