How long is to long for us to get a mount back. Some say 6months to a year. I know a guy that is full time and he is 400 mounts behind. What do you guys think?

Depends on what you agreed too before hand. This comes up a lot out here. Some people have a 2 month wait while others have a 2 year plus wait...
These are the sorts of things that need to be worked out with your chosen taxidermist before work begins. You say 400 mounts behind as tho thats a bad thing and he took on too much work, but it could also be viewed as him being quite the talented and popular fella who is in high demand in your area and the majourity of his clients may not mind waiting.
There are simply too many variables to give a time frame that encompasses all scenarios. The correct questions is; "how long is too long for YOU?". Know before hand when you want your work back - then ask the person if they can provide it in that time frame.
Has he begun the work on your piece yet? If not you could always consider getting your cape back and having someone else do it if you are growing impatient... Just a thought...
It's 'Too Lomg' if you die while waiting for it it to finished in your lifetime.
