I mounted a bobcat with dry preservative (I think next time I will tan) about a week ago. I have noticed that the hair is loose, in spots, it's not just "falling out" but just a little tug and it comes out. I used the "orange button" and looked up slippage but what I really couldn't find out was if I am just being impatient and not allowing it to dry enough or am I fighting a losing battle? I talked to my local taxidermist and he said that I should move it inside, which I did (it was in the garage).

Let it dry more.Weather air temp will sometimes make it take longer to dry.it should be fine.give it plenty of time to dry.Several weeks. You can put a fan on it to speed things up some.I do use dry preserve for stuff but allways give plenty time to dry.Did you degrease it?some need it more than others.Have seen many done with tanning and dry preserve and all look and last if done right.
Patrick is right and this is common with DP mounts. You have to eliminate that desire to pull on the hide. It's DP for cripes sake. It shrinks the hair follicle to lock the hair in and until that happens, the hair will PULL out if you try.
My wife kinda razed me a little while ago, she said "if the hairs is coming out when you pull on it STOP PULLING ON IT!" I guess its kinda like a scab or something its hard to quit picking at it.
Your wife's a keeper. She might make you a taxidermist in spite of yourself. LOL
One time when I was in the ER...and told the nurse that I had a pain in my chest near my breastbone..."When I press on it".
Her smiling reply?..."Then don't press on it"...LOL.
