Cleaning and Preserving Badger Pelt

Submitted by Glenn Makihara on 05/29/2003. ( ) 63.205.187.147

Knowing nothing about taxidermy, I have separated the pelt of a badger from its body and now have the pelt in the freezer. I need tips on how to proceed from here, ie, how to clean the fat, etc. from the inside of the pelt, and how to preserve it so that it will stay pliable and not stiff.

Glen;
Hit the orange search button. This is too much to write down on this.
You have to flesh down the hide, salt, rehydrate, pickle, shave down the hide, wash, neutralize, tan, oil, then tumble the hide. Not going to explain each step in detail on here. You can also buy videos, or books on this too.

Good Luck.........Coyote
