Bobcat losing fur

Joe, You don't say how old this fur is- if it is old the damage may come from tiny bugs eating through the hairs. If this is the case and you want to save what you have I would recomend freezing the whole hide in a very cold freezer for a week, remove for a week or so, refreeze another week (should kill all critters and any that hatch). Next spray with a killer that has some residule effect- understand that there is some risk here of staining of the hair if using a product not designed for taxidermy purposes. Now,shedding caused by other than bugs is probably due to improper tanning or spoilage prior to tanning and there is not much you can do. If the damage is restricted to a couple of small areas they could be repaired but if it is a general loss of hair throughout the hide I would say it is eventually a total loss. Good luck with this -Aaron H.
