Hide paste cleanup

Submitted by LeAnn on 06/07/2003. ( ) 171.75.201.136

It seems like I ALWAYS get hide paste on my hides right along the seam line. It doesn't matter how careful I am, it just always happens. I even try not to put the paste close to the seam edges, but it still ends up on the fur side of my hide. It makes sewing and cleaning a messy job.

I know it supposed to clean up with water, but it just never works very well. I spend more time trying to get the hide paste off of my mount than I do mounting the darn things.

Right now I am using Technaglue on a bobcat. Any tips or suggestions for cleaning it up and for keeping it off of the hide to begin with?

Thank you.

try this

You could try wiping down your seam with a rag that has a very light application of mineral oil (paste comes off EASILY). When you're done with the mount the slightest bit of mineral oil over the whole mount will bring back the natural lustre/sheen to the fur . Just a suggestion.

try again

try that BEFORE mounting the hide , is what I meant.

another suggestion...

Keep your hide paste away from your incision prior to sewing and during sewing. (I know easier said then done, but yes it's "doable")

Apply minimal excess hide paste along both sides of icision. (well out of the work/sewing area) Sew up your incision as usual.

Then work that excess hide paste you applied up the sides towards your sewn incision. Work it until you feel it's been evenly distributed. Comb , groom whatever to your liking.

Perhaps this will work for you? Might want to give it a try.
