Found a large whale vertebrae washed up on Fire Island NY. It stinks like hell but I want to clean it & preserve it. It's about 14 inches in diameter and still has meat & cartilage hanging off of it.
Suggestions? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

I'm working on a lot of whale bone now. Maceration works well as does burying it in manure. Removing the flesh is relatively easy compared to the oils! Lots of degreasing is involved with whale bones.... Look up european mounts or cleaning bones or cleaning skulls in the archives - follow those instructions and you'll do fine =)
