Open Mouth Boar

Submitted by David on 06/15/2003. ( ) 4.42.5.214

I'm doing a open mouth boar and I was just wondering how do you smooth out the apoxie way back in the mouth? One more question.I'm also doing a hound dog. For the ears, would I still need to fill with bondo or is it not necessary do to the ears are just hanging downwards?

A "BEGINNER" , Ed

David, that's done before you assemble the manikin. I'm assuming you have a newer manikin where the jaw is cut as a separate part. You finish both halves and then assemble together leaving only a fine line to fill and smooth out. If you're working with the antique guys, you have to install both sets of teeth and then with a long thin spatula, artist brush and finger, smoothe it out as best you can.

You DEFINITELY need to work the ears. Earliners work well, but for a beginner, Bondo may be the trick.

Thank you Friends!

Use a WASCO mannikin

David, I was fighting the same problems 10 years ago and finally sculpted boar mannikins that eliminated all the headaches. WASCO also has a video for mounting a boar(VHS 269) with all the latest tricks. good luck.
