When I try to stretch the skin it tears!

Submitted by Joe on 06/24/2003. ( ) 204.32.78.238

I recently bought a small mammal skin. I soaked it for about half an hour, and when I tryed to stretch it a little bit it started to tear! It did this in more than one spot. Can anyone tell me if I did something wrong or if the skin was not tanned correctly?

Thanks

it was not neutralized out of the pickle - if this was the case you are out of luck for this skin - you might try sweating in the fridge overnight and then see what happens

Old dry tan

Dry tanned hides which are close to a year old since they have been tanned do not resoak well. They tend to break after resoaking. I lost a fox and a ringtail this way before. Next time you might want to make sure that the dry tan had not been done more then about six month prior to your purchase. Rehydrate it then as soon as possible and put in freezer where it can stay for a long long time.

I THOUGHT SO

I thought that it seemed a little too dry when I received it. Looks like I got scammed for about $80 on this one. I guess that I just have to learn my lesson from this experience. Thanks for your input on this one and good luck to everyone!
