the taxidermist says he has a state and Federal license so the answer must be yes.

Would be to contact the Maine Department Of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife At
284 State Street
41 State House Station
Augusta, ME  04333-0041

Simply because a website says State And federally licensed Taxidermist, Does not depict the criteria required to become so. I live In Ohio. To be a taxidermist all you need is a business license which is attained by paying a fee based on your annual income from said business. If you do Migratory birds, then you need a federal license, $25.00 and it is yours. Now you are state and federally licensed. Write or call the department to be sure. The phone number is 1- 207-287-8000

Get ready to jump through some hoops.

Mike:
I first got licenced in Maine two years ago. I was stationed there in the military and opened up a shop on the coast. The state licencing is the most diffacult Ive seen so far. First youll need to contact the state fish and wildlife office in Agusta. Youll need to complete an application to take a written test in Basic Taxidermy followed by a written test in any of the following areas Mammals and Heads, Birds or Fish. You can take any or all. After you pass the tests then you will be scheduled for a oral exam where you will need to bring exampels of your work one of which is a native whitetail deer and any mammal or bird or fish native to Maine. The board will consist of a wildlife enforcement officer and a licenced taxidermist. They will critique your work and ask some questions. The tests and the oral boards will be held at various locations throughout Maine but as youll find all trails lead to Augusta. It's not a quick pay up and your outa here type deal. The entire process will take about six months but the folks are real nice about it. Maine also has a great taxidermy association that has annual shows the last of which was a month or so ago and was held in China Me. I know this may sound like alot and it is when you compare it to allot of other states. I will be happy to share some other items with you reeguarding Maine. Feel free to call thanks and good luck in the pine tree state
