Sticky Hide Problem

Hi all!

My husband's mounting a deer currently, and we've come across the problem of a sticky hide along his sew lines due to the hide paste. We've tried using lacquer thinner to remove the paste, but it's remained stiff even after brushing. Are there any other products/techniques you can use to remove hide paste from fur? Thank you much!

Tanya,

When using hide paste, keep it several inches back from the sew line and you should be able to keep the hide paste off of the cape. I use water based hide paste that clean up with water, the 2-part stuff will clean up with lacquer thinner when wet, but once dry can be a problem.

Try this....

I forget who told me this, one of the Vets on here I'm sure. I was using waterbased paste from Van Dykes. I got some on the hair, and cleaned the best I could with water.

There was still residue or something there so I took sawdust and wet it down with laquer thinner. Then applied this mixture to the seam and let set for 10-15 mins. It seams like the thinner loosens things up as it evaporates and the sawdust soaks everything up. Once done just blow or shop vac the dust off groom and you should have an oil free soft coat again!
