Maceration Question

I have bought an elk skull that was partially boiled (all red meat off). And am trying the maceration process to clean the rest. Approximately how long should I let the skull soak? Thanks in advance

2 weeks + 1 week

Be ready for the stinkiest, nastiest smell ever. Like sticking your head into a 2 week old summer roadkill - seriously. I have always boiled in sal soda and then manually cleaned what was left and then used peroxide. I decided to try the maceration method on the last 2 bear skulls, never again. I left them in the water for 2 weeks, about puked when I opened the bucket. Then I had to brush the gunk off and put them in fresh water and waited another week before they were clean. Still stunk like crazy. After putting peroxide on them the smell is gone. This process works, but I won't do it again. Better buy some elbow length rubber gloves, because if you splash some of the juice on you, it will stay with you for a while.

Thanks

Bruce,

Thanks for the info, I've had it in there about a week, and it is getting ripe.
