Papier Masche revisited

Submitted by Paul R. Hix on 07/17/2003. ( pcconnct@sbcglobal.net ) 66.138.202.2

Thank all of you for responding to my question of yesterday. I did a little experiment to test the shrinkage of one of the clays that I have on hand. I put some in a mason jar lid and let it sit 24 hours inside my home ( I would not let anything sit in the Texas heat that long). After 24 hours the once filled jar lid lacks about an eighth of an inch being full. This was uncovered and under a ceiling fan. I will test Critter Clay tonight to compare.

Hey Mr. Wizard

I have always used mache, it is stronger than clay, cheaper
than clay, and I can mold it just as good as clay, and it
dries faster.
why use expensive, cracking clay that takes forever to dry?

IF 'PAPIER MACHE' Was WORTHLESS...WHY is Every Dealer Sellin

Papier Mache...Paper that is Mashed. With it's addatives mixed it...it is hard non-shrinking stuff to stuff stuff with. Used it for decades. Created scuptures from it...light and strong. Game Heads, Fish Mounts, specimens of every descriptiopn created with Paier Mache in them (I know...I know...I'm an ole fart who doesn't know his rectum from a hole in the ground...butt...I 'do' know about Mache).

It's usually one of the first crafts kids are taught to be creative with. It has been a mainstay in Taxidermy for Decades and will continue to be long before we are gone (well...at least, 'You'...I'm a 1,200 Year Old Highlander Immortal, ya no).

I agree with ETCC

I agree with ETCC that mache has it uses, I use it on many tasks and prefer it over clay for building up skull caps.

As for the earlier post, ETCC I respect your ability with the dictionary and you seem to have a better "grasp" of spelling and language then I do, but please respect my right to spell paper Mache the American way. As for france (and yes I meant to use lower case) and letting it go...... Not this dude. Ever been to Normandy? Some of us want to remind them that you "don't sh*t where you eat, nor do you bite the hand that feeds you."

I respect you're being in Normandy...most terrible tragic time...Nope I wasn't there...just in Korea.

I wasn't in Normandy

I was not "in" Normandy, just saw the results. It is hard for me to imagine how someone could turn their backs when they have so many graves to show them who their friends have been. "As for me and my house, we are french free"
