coyote or fox pup

My husband found a pup early morn, on the road, great condition several weeks ago. We automatically called it a coyote and I started thinking how I could mount it. Trouble is, of course, finding a form. I don't mind altering, but casting/moulding is not an option for me at this point. I found a gray fox form in McKenzie that is only an inch too long and eye to nose 1/4" too long. Now the thing in my freezer looks a lot like that picture, but I've never heard of grays around here. (west central Vermont) But that doesn't mean there aren't any. What would be a give away difference (if any) and does anyone know a supplier with a form? I have 5 supply catalogs and the fox pup is the closest I've come. It is 151/2" long (before skinning) 11/4" e-n and only a couple pounds. Cuter than a bugs ear!

As far as the pup goes use the form you can find, remmebring to do your alterations to the form before you skin it. Then things will go a lot smoother.

Red Fox were introduced to the North America by people wishing to hunt as they do in Europe or did in Europe.

thats easy

Grey Fox pups dont look anything like reds or coyotes for one thing. They look like miniature grey fox! Second, they have flat tails, reds have tube tails. Now for the biggy...Coyotes have round pupils. That should give you enough to look for...

thanks, guys

It's hard to tell with the eyes frozen opaque, so I put water on them to do a little quick thaw. I gotta find out since fox means a call to the game warden. I don't mean to look like I don't know my animals, but babies can be hard. Bill, thanks for your advice at the NY show, too. You've helped me twice in a week and I bet you didn't even know it!
