Travis, How much can you learn in a week? -Lots. If you know nothing now or very little, watching someone mount a deer will be awesome. But...you can watch a video for a lot less. My advise would be to first learn the basics from a video and books. Study all the photos you can find of deer and after hours of serious study you will begin to see what a deer looks like. Never mount anything without good reference pictures right there to look at and go by. After you learn how it's done and mount a few deer you might want to invest money in a class. I would not invest a lot in learning the basics but then if you have access to nice-priced group classes go for it. Many people advance faster in taxidermy by hireing someone to teach them ways to improve. This can be costly as well as helpful but it's not the best way to start out. My thoughts, Aaron H.

You are correct, they do vary from place to place. For example, I suggest three days at my place for advanced students and five days with beginners. Why? Because it gets too darned expensive! Three days will help the advanced student, he may want to stay the week anyway. Right, Rob? The beginner will mount two heads, get loads of info and spend alot of time in the deer pen in 5 days. Like I said, each place is different. Just check the references offered. As Rob stated above, give him a call. Hes been to my place a few years back and I believe hes now taking a few students himself...
