I,too, was curious, so I tried some. Followed the directions exactly and nary a hair was lost. Lots of stretch too. I don't think it's a tan, however. Probably you should try the search button as there is quite a bit of info under Ben Mears. Good luck.
My educated guess: not a tan, but a preservative of some sort. I used it exclusively for the past four years. I have had absolutely "0" problems. In the back of my mind, I couldn't get over the "no tan" problem. So on about the last 20 whitetails I have tried 2 other new tans. After finishing these whitetails, I will probably go back to spray tan. Good Luck.
haven't had a problem yet. I use it exclusively on my deer. As for the proper way to use it, it is simple. You rough flesh, apply sodium sulfate to flesh side and let it set overnight in fridge or about 4-6 hours at room temp, shake ss off and wash good in water and dawn dishwashing liquid, tumble dry and then spray with spary tan and you are ready to mount or freeze. I have let it set in the fridge with ss on for as much as five or six days with no problem. I just had to let it rehydrate a while longer when I washed it. I love it, though and Ben will help you in any way he can.
