I have few thaughts to run past you guys. I have my shop/studio 95% completed. It is so nice I almost don't want to put anything bloody in to it. My mother wants to move in to it lol. I put down industrial tile for the floor in the work area. I was thinking that mounting stands would scratch this all to u no what. I was thinking of building a stand that mounted to the end of my work bench with pipe fastened to the floor at the corner. Is this a practical idea or should I go with the big leged unit and have a scratched floor? Also I need to seal this floor tile. The place I bought it from didn't seem to offer any suggestions on what to use, any one have this type of floor and what do you use to put on it? . Thanks once again for your time and knowledge! Jack

I for got. hows this name for the shop "Jack's Wild Expression's"
Myself I have never owned a floor stand. Never had the need for one. Have a heavy walled tubing stand build to suite what you need. I had mine made from Chromemoly steel tubing as its strong!
maybe you could just use a bench mounting stand or put a felt or rubber pad down and use the pad under your stand. I think the bench mounting stand would be best fo you in this situation though. Good Luck. Dan
I have seen the bench top mounting stands in the catalogs but thought maybe they would be to week. I will give one a try and thanks again for your knowledge and experiance. Jack
I also have commercial floor tiles and currently use several floor stands. I personally find them to work great, very versitile, since you can move them around and even use them for displaying work while at shows.I could not imagine doing it any other way.
Unfortunately, The floor is going to get scratched, I thought just like you when I first had the floor installed. It will happen, either by the stands or just by accident while working in the shop. I always seem to scratch and sometimes gouge my floor with the threaded rods from large forms, Bears, sheep,Lion. Not to mention staples on the backs of big mounts such as Buffalo,Kudu or Eland.Just by the nature of our business the floor will take a beating with overspray, spills, salt, blood and lots of water. Usually, I will have
my floor stripped, buffed and waxed once every couple of years to keep it looking good. So that I do not lose any time working I have this done while I am away hunting or on vacation. Good luck with the new floor!
Just get some of those self stick vinyl tiles and do a 6 foot square right where your mounting stand will go. When they are scratched and you feel the need... change them

all my stands are fitted with castors so i can wheel them around. never had a problem even with the heaviest mounts. when its time to paint, all i have to do is push the mount over to the paint area.
You can get plastic machine pads. They are designed for milling machines and lathes used in metalworking shops to protect congrete floors when the machines are not to be bolted to the floor. They are not too expensive and if you use these as "feet" for your stands, they will do much less damage than the bare metal. I would buff and wax your display area more often than the working area though.
